MEDITERRANEAN SEA (Feb. 17, 2011) – Greek navy submarine HS Protefs is “forced” to surface off the coast of Sicily by a combination of NATO surface and air assets as part of Exercise Proud Manta. The event was observed by journalists embarked aboard Italian navy ship ITS Etna for a media availability to mark the end of the 14-day exercise. Proud Manta is designed to provide operational training in air, surface, and subsurface cooperation and coordination in anti-submarine warfare operations for potential NATO response force roles and missions.
